Dr. Carissa Chambers

Dr. Chambers has been with Jonesborough Eye Clinic since 2016. As a native of Huntsville, TN, she knew she wanted to stay in East Tennessee and moved to this area in 2015 after finishing optometry school.

Dr. Chambers received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in Nutrition and completed the Chancellor’s Honors Program. Dr. Chambers then completed her optometry education at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. While there, she received an award for ocular disease management and graduated with Honors.

Following completion of her optometry degree, Dr. Chambers moved to the Johnson City area and completed a residency in Primary Eye Care/Ocular Disease at the Mountain Home VA. She also gained experience performing low vision exams for the veterans. Following residency, Dr. Chambers received certification of Advanced Competencies in Medical Optometry through the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Dr. Chambers is a board certified Therapeutic Optometrist and enjoys seeing a variety of patients from children to the elderly. She is the recent past president of the Northeast Tennessee Society of Optometric Physicians, and she is a member of the American Optometric Association and Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians.

In her free time, Dr. Chambers enjoys hiking and competing in triathlons & running, recently competing at the world championship level on TeamUSA as an age group athlete in the duathlon and aquathlon, as well as Ironman 70.3 World Championships. She loves to stay involved with the local athletic community by holding a board position with the State of Franklin Track Club as well as being an Ironman Certified Coach. She is also an active member of the Lions Club International and participates in missions in both East TN and internationally.
